Epidemic Prevention Training

Background of Institutional Epidemic Prevention, Infection Control, and Disease Prevention Courses

Institutions need special measures to protect their operations, infrastructure, and employees from potential risks during emergencies. These emergencies can result from human or natural events, such as earthquakes, extreme temperatures, fires, or epidemics like the novel coronavirus pneumonia.

Depending on the type of emergency, hazards can appear in various forms, including chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, ergonomic, and physical hazards. The current COVID-19 pandemic is an example of a biological hazard. Therefore, establishing an effective safety plan before these emergencies occur is essential. Such plans include measures for all stages, such as facility protection and strategies for identifying and adjusting to potential hazards by institutional owners or managers.

Currently, COVID-19 has been classified under Category B infectious diseases per the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Law of the People's Republic of China but is managed with Category A preventive and control measures. It is also included in the quarantine infectious disease management per the Frontier Health and Quarantine Law of the People's Republic of China.

Objectives of the Institutional Epidemic Prevention, Infection Control, and Disease Prevention Course

To prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases, protect public health, and maintain the normal functioning of institutions, Shanghai Sinoaid Health Promotion Center quickly assembled a team of experts in collaboration with the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center (affiliated with Fudan University) to compile the Institutional Infection Control Manual. Based on this manual, the Infection Control and Disease Prevention course was designed to use COVID-19 prevention knowledge as an entry point to illustrate the importance of infection control and health, safety, and emergency preparedness for institutional operations.

The course aligns with institutional safety strategies and WHO guidelines, combining theory with practice and including interactive sessions to help employees and managers acquire essential disease prevention and infection control knowledge, ensuring sustainable, healthy institutional development.
